Danila Serra is an Associate Professor at Texas A&M University. Serra is the inaugural recipient of the Vernon L. Smith Ascending Scholar Prize, a member of the Economic Science Association (ESA) Executive Committee and a research affiliate at the Center for the Study of African Economies (CSAE), at the University of Oxford. Her research fields are Economics of Corruption, Development Economics; Experimental and Behavioral Economics, Gender and Economics.

Nordic PhD exchange seminar: Pol Campos-Mercade Threshold Incentives and Academic Performance

Pol Campos-Mercade is a PhD student at Lund University. Campos-Mercade uses field experiments and other methods of experimental economics to study issues related to economics of education. More concretely, 1) how incentives, goals, and reference points determine study effort, and 2) how social preferences and expectations of being discriminated affect educational choice. He will hold a Nordic PhD exchange seminar at FAIR.

FAIR invites you to a seminar with Christine Exley, assistant professor in the Negotiation, Organizations & Markets Unit at Harvard Business School. Exley works to better understand inequity and how to close inequities in our society. She focuses on how to encourage more charitable giving in order to reallocate resources to those in need, most notably, and on the drivers of gender gaps in the labor market, such as those that relate to negotiation, discrimination, and confidence.

FAIR organizes a PhD course with Lise Vesterlund, "Identification Through Experiments: The Cases of Gender Differences in the Labor Market and the Study of Charitable Giving". The course presents advanced topics in behavioral and experimental economics. The emphasis will be on how we can use of lab and field experiments to address questions related to charitable giving and gender differences in the labor market.

CELE Workshop

The workshop is meant to be a small gathering of applied economists working on empirical economic history, labor economics, or policy evaluation. On Thursday 27 June 2019 Nhat Quang Le will hold a trial lecture on a prescribed topic and defend his thesis for the PhD degree at NHH. Thesis: "Explaining communication effects on donation behavior: The roles of contractual relations and social information".

PhD course Summer School on Socioeconomic Inequality

From June 24.-June 28., 2019, FAIR will host the Summer School on Socioeconomic Inequality together with Human Capital and Economic Opportunity Global Working Group (HCEO) at The Center for the Economics of Human Development (Department of Economics), University of Chicago. The Summer School will provide a state-of-the-art overview on the study of inequality and human flourishing, the integration between psychological and sociological insights into the foundations of human behavior and conventional economic models, and various tools needed to study the issue of inequality.

FAIR Inaugural Conference Nobel Laureate James Heckman

FAIR is proud to present James Heckman (Nobel Prize Laureate from University of Chicago) as a keynote speaker at the FAIR Inaugural Conference. James J. Heckman has devoted his professional life to understanding the origins of major social and economic problems related to inequality, social mobility, discrimination, skill formation and regulation, and to devising and evaluating alternative strategies for addressing those problems. The keynote is open to the public.

Applied Microeconomics Workshop

This conference will bring together a diverse group of senior and junior applied micro-economists from Europe and the US working on a range of issues that include tax policy, education, healthcare, crime and other areas of interest. The purpose of this conference is to encourage cross-fertilization of techniques and topics across applied-micro economists working in these different but connected fields. The conference is organized by Katrine V. Løken (Norwegian School of Economics), Magne Mogstad (University of Chicago), Gordon Dahl (University California San Diego), and Manudeep Bhuller (University of Oslo). The conference is funded by the Norwegian Research Council through the project "Social Costs of Incarceration".
