The Department of Economics invites you to a PhD Course with Ingar Haaland, Professor at NHH, from 12 - 15 October 2026.
Dates: 12 - 15 October 2026
Place: Norwegian School of Economics | Bergen, Norway
Credits: 5 ECTS
Assessment: 1. Group presentation (4-6 students). Equals 40% of the total grade. 2. Individual term paper: Up to 10 pages. Equals 60% of the total grade. Topics will be decided no later than 2 weeks before the last lecture and students have 3-4 weeks to submit. Term papers can be written in Norwegian or English.
Topics: This doctoral course provides an introduction to how recent advances in generative AI are reshaping research in economics and finance. The course covers how to integrate AI into research workflows, discusses applications from recent research papers, introduces tools for working with large language models at scale, and explores how participants can identify opportunities to apply AI in their own research projects. The course will also cover recent developments in agentic coding, including the use of coding agents and reproducible AI workflows for research.
There will be lectures by Ingar Haaland, Christopher Roth and Luca Braghieri.
