In Denmark, Aldi is selling out to Norwegian Rema 1000 after losing millions and millions in the Danish grocery market over several decades. In the UK, Aldi has never done better with market share growth and increased profitability. The big difference is not entirely obvious.
German Aldi has never made money in Denmark. Amazingly Rema 1000 has made money from day one, since Odd Reitan opened the first Danish store in 1994. The success of Rema is one of the reasons why Aldi has sold most of its Danish stores to the Norwegians.
