In the nominations this semester’s candidate was described as “a fantastic man” and “the world’s best lecturer”, and the lecturer's genuine interest in the students and their development was emphasized by many.
It is a pleasure to award the Bronze Sponge for the spring semester of 2018 to Professor Jan Ubøe for the course MET2 – Statistics for economists, for his dedication to the students, and a new way of teaching stastics.
For this semester’s award it is important to mention the connection between the lectures and the group sessions in this course. The lecturer has implemented dialog based groups, with great success according to the nominations. Making room for new and interesting forms of teaching, and succeeding with it, is one of the main reasons for this year’s award.
There is no doubt that Jan Ubøe is a worthy winner of this award, as he has done an outstanding job with this course.
The Bronze Sponge was first awarded in 1972 to share an appreciation for lectureres that in the students’ eyes have made an extraordinary effort at teaching the bachelor courses. The price is awarded to an lecturer that have shown great pedagogical skills, and the ability to develop the course to meet the demands of the students and the society.
Jan Ubøe also won this award in 2016.
