Own teaching development project

Feb 6 (9.00-12.00) and Dec 7 (9.00-15.00)

The aim of this project is to improve participants' teaching by encouraging individuals to reflect on their own teaching practice and act on this reflection.

Part 2 of the seminar will be in December where the participants projects will we presented and discussed. Participants will receive individual guidance during the project. Approval of the project: 50 of the 200-hour pedagogical programme at NHH.

The seminar fits well together with a another seminar in the autumn (Research publication) which will focus on reflecting teaching, research and perhaps publication.

Teaching portfolio

The seminar is focused on the development of a teaching portfolio. To accomplish this, we will discuss reflective writing on teaching, scholarly approaches to teaching and evidence of student learning. Case-based teaching

Agenda:  

The case method: Why using cases? What makes a good case discussion?  The case teaching process. Linking cases with theories and concepts. Preparing a case teaching session

The case teaching process: Opening a case teaching session. Running case teaching sessions. Closing case teaching sessions. Typical mistakes in case teaching. How to get better over time

Participants at the seminar will be offered to do an assignment relevant to their own teaching. Approval: 25 of the 200-hour pedagogical programme at NHH. For full credit, participants are invited to work on one of the following post-workshop assignments: 1. Get feedback on a video recorded case discussion from the course instructor. 2. Provide feedback to a peer’s case teaching session. 3. Reflect on one of your own case discussions. 4. Get feedback on your teaching plan for an upcoming session.

The seminar focuses on knowledge, skills, and useful tools for PhD supervisors. We will consider how to make research supervision an enjoyable part of the academic role, time managing and boundaries as efficiently as possible. We will further discuss the scholarship behind different approaches to supervising research, time management, types of PhD candidates and situations.
