NHH has world-class EMBA specialisations
The Financial Times has ranked the world's 100 best EMBA programmes. ‘It consolidates NHH’s position as a leading international business school,’ says NHH Rector Øystein Thøgersen.
Øystein Thøgersen is professor of Economics at NHH Norwegian School of Economics. He served as the rector of NHH for two consecutive terms, from 2017 to 2025. He has previously been head of the Department of Economics at NHH. He has also been member of the board of NHH and chairman of the board of SNF Center for applied research at NHH.
Thøgersen’s main research fields are macroeconomics and public finance. He has done extensive work on fiscal policy and the management of petroleum wealth, and his research in these areas goes back all the way to his ph.d. thesis work in the early 1990s. Thøgersen has published a series of articles in leading academic journals on these topics, in addition to making significant policy contributions in this area.
Thøgersen has chaired governmental commissions on the Norwegian fiscal policy guidelines and the investment strategy of the Government Pension Fund Global (“the oil fund”). He has served on the Executive Board of Norges Bank (the Central Bank of Norway) and has been a long-standing member of advisory councils to the Ministry of Finance.
He has been member of the Governing Board of the European university alliance ENGAGE EU, member of the Strategic Board of CEMS – The global alliance in management education, and member of the board of Universities Norway (UHR). He has also been member of the board of NCE Finance Innovation.
He regularly serves on international peer review teams for respectively EQUIS and AACSB accreditation of business schools.
Thøgersen is a dedicated teacher, has received teaching awards at NHH and other institutions, and is a sought-after public speaker, frequently invited to address policymakers, industry, and wider audiences on topics related to macroeconomics and economic policy.

Professor Trond M. Døskeland will increase knowledge of asset management and private equity funds through an endowed professorship from Argentum.

The coronavirus pandemic did not put a damper on NHH students’ careers, according to a new survey. ‘Always a demand for talented business graduates.’
Vilde Glesnes (24) completed her master's degree during the pandemic and was offered a job while she was still a student. The same is true for most of the people with whom she studied.
