Adjusted statutes and amounts for NHH's awards
NHH has awarded prestigious prizes in core areas for decades, but without changing the statutes or prize amounts. In January, the board adopted several adjustments.
Among the most prestigious awards are the Norwegian School of Economics' Honour Award for Excellent Research established in 1986, the Ingvar Wedervang young Research Award first awarded in 1991, NHH's Award for Excellence in Teaching (1999), and NHH's Award for excellent Knowledge Dissemination (2011).
The prize amounts in nominal “kroner” have remained stable for most of the awards over a long period, and there has also been varying frequency in how often the awards have been given.
Working group
In the autumn of 2024, a working group was tasked with proposing an adjustment and harmonization of the prize amounts for the research award, "young researcher," and the dissemination award, and the possibility of proposing an adjustment of the frequency of awarding the prizes.
Included in the working group's mandate was also an assessment of the NHH Mission Award, even though this is not an award to be handled by NHH's board.
The working group consisted of department heads Jarle Møen and Aksel Mjøs, as well as Malin Arve and Geir Mikalsen from NHH's management group.
After being processed in the rector's management group and the academic management group, the proposal was finally adopted by the NHH board in the January meeting.
Adjusted amounts
The new prize amounts are as follows (original prize amount in parentheses):
- Honour Award for Excellent Research: NOK 300,000 (50,000)
- Young Researcher: NOK 150,000 (30,000)
- Excellent Knowledge Dissemination: NOK 200,000 (40,000)
The awards will be given every three years. The next communication award will be in 2026, and the two research awards in 2027.
The board's handling of the award for Excellence in Teaching was put on hold since NHH annually awards the 'Inspirational Teaching Award' for five years from 2022 to 2026.
The Inspirational Teaching Award is NOK 250,000 annually, funded by a donation from Henrik and Isabella Müller-Hansen. The award for teaching efforts was previously awarded every three years, and the amount was NOK 35,000.

The Rector's management team and the academic management group team have also decided to increase the prize amount for the NHH Mission Award from NOK 25,000 to NOK 40,000. The award will continue to be given annually.
