New dissemination Award in Honour of Victor D. Norman

The award shall recognize Norman's outstanding contributions as an economist and communicator.

NHH Professor Victor D. Norman has been a prominent economist for many decades, and a broad Norwegian audience knows him as a research disseminator, public debater, and politician.

The dissemination award in Norman's name will be given annually to a recipient who contributes to dissemination and debate on issues in the Norwegian economy and Norwegian economic policy.

The goal is to reward dissemination of socio-economic insights that have academic quality but is easy to understand and engaging, and that contributes to rational and constructive discourse.

"Unrealistic and populist statements should be met with sharp scrutiny, while challenges and breaks with conventional thinking are encouraged," it says in the presentation of the award.

Awarded at the Alumni Conference

It is Atle Bergshaven, Herbjørn Hansson, and Jens Ulltveit-Moe, as well as NHH alumni and friends of Norman, who have taken the initiative and are financing the award.

The prize itself is NOK 50,000, and it will be awarded for the first time at the Alumni Conference in Oslo on 18 October.

The winner will be chosen by a jury consisting of the editor-in-chief of Aftenposten, Trine Eilertsen, Professor Kjetil Storesletten at the University of Oslo, and professor and NHH rector Øystein Thøgersen.

"It is an honour and a pleasure to contribute to awarding this prize in Victor's name. His ability to combine deep insights into economics with clear, engaging, and often challenging dissemination is in many ways unique. He has meant a lot to NHH, but also to the public debate," says Øystein Thøgersen.

"At the same time, it feels very fitting to award the prize at the Alumni Conference, since Victor has a very high standing among countless cohorts of NHH students," he adds.

"Of course, it greatly dampens the joy that Victor is seriously ill, but still we are glad that we have the opportunity to honour him in this way now," concludes Thøgersen.

The deadline for proposing candidates for the award is 1 October.

Proposals with a short elaboration can be sent by e-mail to Randi Holmås at NHH.
