Fuels Career Services

Recently career professionals from Tilburg University and WU gave a workshop on salary negotiations, resilience and purpose to a group of NHH students.

This was the first workshop of its kind aiming to fuel career services across the ENGAGE.EU alliance

Great opportunity to share and learn

As a partner in ENGAGE.EU, NHH Career Centre ran the trial workshop together with the University of Tilburg and Vienna University of Economics and Business (WU). "Engage is a perfect framework to strengthen students through career services," Tamar Jonkman said.

Jonkman is leading ‘Engage Careers’, a task within the European university alliance aiming to enhance the students professional and personal development. She also is head of Student Development at Tilburg University. "This is a great opportunity to share and learn from each other. It’s inspiring for the work ahead," she said.

All about the students

Careers became a task in the second phase of ENGAGE.EU. The partners soon became aware of both their differences and similarities in how they guide students.

"During the early stages of developing the alliance and its scope it became clear that career professionals, regardless of which country or university they come from, are passionate about helping students reflect on their future careers and make conscientious choices," Jonkman said. "This is a key focus area in our current phase of exploring a common ground for Engage Careers," she added.

Exploring common ground

In November all ENGAGE.EU career professionals will meet in person for the first time in Tilburg. "The workshop in Bergen was the first step turning plans into action and helps fuel the process, Jonkman said.

"My hope is that while we are in Tilburg, we can align the great initiatives that each institution has and create a common ‘Engage Careers’ outline. Even if we can’t finalise the outline, we will at least get a big step closer by creating a list of actions to put into motion," she said.

The list of actions will also contain ways to ensure interconnectivity with the other tasks, creating synergy within ENGAGE.EU.

Based on the evaluation after the workshop, the student consensus was that they enjoyed devoting time to reflect on their mindset, motivation and how they potentially could grow both personally and professionally.
