First annual alliance conference with St. Gallen

NHH and the other member universities recently met representatives from St Gallen during the ENGAGE.EU Annual Conference in Vienna.

“St. Gallen brings a wealth of expertise and global perspective that undoubtfully will enrich our academic community and enhance our shared mission,” said NHH's rector, Øystein Thøgersen at the Annual Conference.

For 3 days all 10 ENGAGE.EU alliance universities gathered to review collaborative progress, share insights and strategize on future goals.

“Each institution brings unique strengths, and these face-to-face interactions brings us closer together and foster a an even deeper commitment to our collaboration,” said Thøgersen.

From joint to European degrees

The Annual Conference in Vienna is the fourth of its kind where all the university partners physically meet to collaborate around work packages connected to learning, research and societal engagement.

AI, circular economy and the future of Europe’s higher education were hot topics with keynote speeches and discussions across the work package areas.

During her speech Tina Delva Deputy shared the European Commission’s political guidelines over the next five years. As the Head of Unit Higher Education within European Commission she underscored EU’s focus on research and higher education to foster innovation and sustainability intended to enhance Europe’s global competitiveness.

Amongst others she highlighted the goal to move from joint degree programmes where every partner must fulfil different and often incompatible requirements, to a future European degree that embedded in national legislation based on European criteria.

“The role of higher education and research is more important than ever in these turbulent times,” emphasized Thøgersen.

Close to 200 participants attended the Annual Conference in Vienna. Toulouse University Capitole in France will host next year’s gathering.
