Holiday and working hours during Christmas 2024

Do you have unused vacation days, accrued hours, or entitlements to senior days? Find out here what you can carry over to next year and what must be used before the end of the year.

As in previous years, working hours will start at 10 a.m. during the period between Christmas and New Year, and you are entitled to one paid day off.

VACATION AND OVERTIME HOURS

Do you have unused vacation days or a significant number of accrued hours? If so, you should contact your manager to plan your vacation or, if applicable, arrange for the transfer of vacation days to next year. You may transfer up to 14 vacation days. Unused vacation days cannot be converted into a payout.

Regarding accrued hours, please note that any hours exceeding 50 will be forfeited without compensation on December 31, 2024. Plan your time off with your manager in advance.

DEFICIT HOURS

You are allowed to carry over a maximum of 10 deficit hours into the next year. Any deficit hours exceeding this limit may result in a salary deduction.

WORKING HOURS BETWEEN CHRISTMAS AND NEW YEAR

During the Christmas-New Year period, workdays start at 10 a.m. The hours between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. are considered paid leave. You cannot accrue hours by starting work at 8 a.m.

You are also entitled to one paid day off between Christmas and New Year. Coordinate this day with your manager. Employees should record the day off as if they worked from 10 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. on that date.

SENIOR DAYS

Are you 62 years or older? You are entitled to 10 extra paid days off per calendar year. Of these, eight days are provided under the Main Collective Agreement, and two days are agreed upon locally at NHH. Senior days can be taken as full days or as reduced working hours, as agreed with your manager. These days cannot be carried over to the next year.

Unused senior days cannot be transferred or paid. Any unused senior days will be forfeited.
