Calendar door 9: Jovana Milic
In the ninth calendar door of the NHH Employee Calendar 2024 we find Jovana, who the Serbian tradition of lighting badnjak (oak branches) on fire on Christmas Eve.

Jovana Milic is originally from Serbia and has been working at the Office of Research Administration (FAA) for 1,5 years
In Bergen she is particularly fond of the festival of lights, the gingerbread city and the Christmas activities at FAA, which includes ”julebord”, “julelunsj” and “julekalender”.
Both her favorite Christmas traditions and food combine elements from the different cultures she has experienced. These include the Norwegian tradition of going around the Christmas tree and singing Christmas songs, and the Serbian tradition of lighting badnjak (oak branches) on fire on Christmas Eve. In Serbia every family does this but there are also bigger fires lit in front of the churches where many can join.
