Calendar door 5: Lulzim Shala
In the fifth calendar door of the NHH Employee Calendar 2024 we find Lulzim. Find out why many people in Albania, still refer to the Christmas tree as 'The New Year's tree.'

Lulzim Shala has been working at NHH Executive for three years. He is originally from Albania and has been living in Italy for many years.
In Albania, many people still refer to the Christmas tree as 'The New Year's tree.' This dates back to the communist regime, when religious practices were banned, and religious holidays and symbols were stripped of their significance.
For the past six years, Lulzim has spent his Christmas holidays in the Canary Islands, enjoying the sun and bathing with his daughters, all while wearing Santa hats. This year, however, he will probably be staying in Bergen and hosting family who will visit him and his family. One thing that is an absolute must during his Christmas holidays is watching "Love Actually" and "Home Alone".
Lulzim is a big fan of social gatherings, and in Bergen, he absolutely loves the Christmas market at Festplassen.
'It creates such a warm and festive atmosphere - especially when the weather is nice and it’s not raining,' says Lulzim.
Lulzim’s favorite Christmas dish is the Albanian 'Dollme me gjel deti' (Roast Turkey with Cornbread Dressing). As for cookies, he absolutely loves 'Cantuccini toscani' (Tuscan Almond Cookies). Last year, after nine years in Norway, he tried Lutefisk for the second time.

‘Believe it or not, I was not disappointed at all,’ exclaims Lulzim.
His special wish for Christmas is probably shared by many others this year; More peace across the world this Christmas.
‘There is nothing more meaningful I could wish for,’ states Lulzim and continues:
‘My thoughts go to all those living in areas affected by war, not knowing if they'll make it to Christmas.’
