Calendar door 4: Mateusz Mysliwski

In the fourth calendar door of the NHH Employee Calendar 2024 we find Mateusz. Did you now that fried carp is the fish that is traditionally eaten on Christmas Eve where he comes from?

Mateusz Mysliwski is originally from Poland and has been working at the Department of Economics for 5 years.

Although Mateusz explains that he does not celebrate Christmas in a religious or spiritual way, he will still be spending the Christmas season with his family, have a festive dinner on Christmas Eve, exchange presents etc.

Mateusz finds that Bergen gets really cosy with all the Christmas lights outside of houses and he likes both pinnekjøtt and lutefisk.

During workdays in December, Paraplyen will present colleagues and their end-of-the-year traditions. In total 15 employees will share their own special traditions.

'Perhaps as long as they're only eaten once a year,' he adds thoughtfully.

'Christmas is not really Christmas without listening to "Last Christmas",' according to Mateusz.

Another detail about Christmas that he likes is the fact that in Poland Christmas Eve seems to be the only day when most people do not eat meat.

'Well, fish doesn't count, does it?,' he jokingly adds.

For those without detailed knowledge about local Polish traditions, fried carp is the fish that is traditionally eaten on Christmas Eve where Mateusz comes from.

Mateusz will be spending Christmas in his cabin in Bialowieza Forest in Eastern Poland and hopes that there is enough snow to do some cross-country skiing. More generally, his Christmas wish is peace to the world.
