Learn from the best at Harvard
“I have learned to activate my teaching, and I use the methods in every lecture,” says Alexander Madsen Sandvik, associate professor at the Department of Strategy and Management.
Since 2014, 17 faculty members from NHH have participated in Harvard's summer course in pedagogy, the Global Colloquium on Participant-Centered Learning. Are you interested? Grasp the opportunity now!
Sandvik attended the course this summer and will head back to Boston for part two in January. The program consists of two sessions: One week in Boston in July and some days in January the following year.
“You learn how to facilitate a discussion, make smooth transitions, and engage the students with questions and cases. And then you learn how Harvard teaches about education. I think the challenge is to come back to NHH and find good adaptations that suit our students. You have to find your way to do it,” says Sandvik.
Get inspired
Are you thinking about improving your pedagogical skills? The Harvard course addresses the age-old dilemma for academia - how best to teach – or to be correct - how best to learn? The colloquium seeks to improve the learning model by building a global community of management educators who are committed to innovative teaching and course design.
“The course is a good way to get inspired. If the goal is to have most of the students on campus, we have to have an engaging form of teaching. The methods you learn at Harvard will work just as well in subjects with maths and numbers, as in management and behavioral subjects,” says Sandvik.
The Harvard Summer Course is an intensive program, where you learn together with lecturers from 20 nationalities. There will be plenty of time to self-reflect on what you do as a lecturer.
