"Tallskalle" coming to the UK and US

‘It is not surprising that the US market in particular is interested in a book about the hidden power of numbers,’ says NHH professor Helge Thorbjørnsen.

NHH professor Helge Thorbjørnsen and Micael Dahlén's new book "Tallskalle" will now be published in the UK and the US. Dahlén is a professor at Stockholm School of Economics.

‘The psychology and influence of numbers is something that concerns absolutely everyone. The theme is universal, recognizable, and global. It is not surprising that the US market in particular is interested in a book about the hidden power of numbers. The US is probably the country in the world where the focus on numbers, quantification and measurement is the greatest,’ says Helge Thorbjørnsen at the Department of Strategy and Management.

BASED ON RESEARCH

The book is based on Dahlén and Thorbjørnsen's own studies and experiments, and refers to relevant research on how numbers, measurements and reward systems affect our lives and achievements. The publisher Hachette has secured the English world rights to the book.

‘The book is important because the numbers are now everywhere – both at work and in our personal lives. People across the globe are drowning in numbers, and the book documents how the numbers affect our relationships, experiences, and achievements,’ says the NHH professor.

'WE LOVE NUMBERS'

We count steps, calories, and friends. We rate experiences and wake up to new numbers in the news every morning. Never have our access to numbers been as big as now.

‘Numbers can be both dangerous and fantastic, and our point is not that you should stop using them. We love numbers, otherwise we would not have survived long as economics professors,’ says Thorbjørnsen.

"Tallskalle" was published in Norway and Sweden this autumn.
