Stein Ivar Steinshamn is a Professor of Resource and Environmental Economics. He received his master degree from the University of Bergen in 1987 and Dr. Oecon degree in fisheries economics from the Norwegian School of Economics in 1992. He is coordinator of the international master and doctorial program at NHH in Energy, Natural Resources and the Environment (ENE) and Program Director of the ENE Research Program at the Centre for Applied Research (SNF).

Steinshamn has published close to 40 articles in international journals like European Journal of Operational Research, Journal of Environmental Economics and Management and Journal of Economic Dynamics and Control. He has also published some 10 book chapters. He has been heading numerous international research projects funded by EU, the Nordic Council, various Norwegian Ministries and the Norwegian Research Council.

His research interests include environmental and resource economics in general with emphasis on optimal management of renewable and non-renewable resources as well as the environment. In particular, he has been working on bioeconomic modelling and dynamic optimization models for management of animal populations and ecosystem services.
