Roles, responsibilities, and mandates in the systematic quality work at NHH

Board and Committees

  • NHH'S BOARD

    NHH'S BOARD

    The NHH Board is the institution's highest governing body. The board has an external chairperson, and the rector serves as the secretary to the board.

    RESPONSIBILITIES IN THE QUALITY WORK
    The board holds the overarching responsibility for ensuring that NHH conducts systematic quality work in accordance with the requirements and guidelines set by national legislation, NOKUT, and international accreditation bodies. The board has a specific responsibility in matters related to accreditation, reaccreditation, and the discontinuation of degree awarding study programmes.

  • ACADEMIC COMMITTEE

    ACADEMIC COMMITTEE

    The Academic Committee is an advisory body to the Vice Rector for Academic Affairs  and consists of teaching coordinators from the departments, student representatives from both the Executive Board and the Student Committee, and the Head of Section for Educational Quality.

    RESPONSIBILITIES IN THE QUALITY WORK
    The committee provides input and advice on strategic and educational policy matters related to the bachelor's and master's programmes .

  • Research Committee

    Research Committee

    The Research Committee is an advisory body to the Vice Rector for Research. It consists of one representative from each department, the Head of the Office of Research Administration, and two Ph.D. students.  

    RESPONSIBILITIES IN THE QUALITY WORK
    The committee provides advice on doctoral education, including quality measures, and contributes to ensuring that the education is always academically and pedagogically aligned with current and future needs in research and society at large.

    NHH’S ADVISORY BOARD

    The NHH Advisory Board is an internationally composed advisory body for NHH's leadership, consisting of leaders from business, public institutions, and academia. 

     

    RESPONSIBILITIES IN THE QUALITY WORK
    The NHH Advisory Board provides external perspectives on NHH and advises the rector and the rector's leadership team on strategic issues to ensure NHH's position as a leading international business school.

     

  • Council for Collaboration with Working Life (RSA)

    Council for Collaboration with Working Life (RSA)

    NHH's Council for Collaboration with Working Life (RSA) is part of Kompetanseforum Vestland, a collaborative body focused on competence development in the region.

    Kompetanseforum Vestland includes representatives from the University of Bergen, Western Norway University of Applied Sciences, Norwegian School of Economics (NHH), Vestland Vocational College, Vestland County Municipality (chair), the Confederation of Norwegian Enterprise (NHO), the Norwegian Confederation of Trade Unions (LO), the Norwegian Association of Local and Regional Authorities (KS), the Norwegian Labour and Welfare Administration (NAV), and Helse Vest.

    NHHE Academic Council

    The NHHE Academic Council is an advisory body to the Rector.

    RESPONSIBILITIES IN THE QUALITY WORK
    The council ensures that the programmes offered by NHHE maintain a high academic standard and comply with relevant laws, regulations, guidelines, and requirements set by the Ministry of Education and Research (KD), NOKUT, and international accreditation bodies.

  • Learning Environment Committee (LMU)

    Learning Environment Committee (LMU)

    The Learning Environment Committee is an advisory body to NHH's Board concerning students' physical and mental learning environment, health, safety, and welfare.

    RESPONSIBILITIES IN THE QUALITY WORK
    The committee ensures compliance with Section § 10-1 of the Universities and University Colleges Act (uhl) regarding the learning environment and secures student involvement in processes affecting the learning environment.

  • REFERENCE GROUPS FOR BACHELOR'S AND MASTER'S PROGRAMMES

    REFERENCE GROUPS FOR BACHELOR'S AND MASTER'S PROGRAMMES

    The academic directors for the full-time bachelor's and master's programmes each have their own reference group. The composition of these groups is described in their respective mandates.

    The reference groups serve as advisory bodies to the academic directors.

  • ADVISORY BODY FOR MRR

    ADVISORY BODY FOR MRR

    The advisory body for the MRR programme serves as an advisory body to the academic director for MRR. It consists of one member from the leadership of each of the auditing firms BDO, Deloitte, EY, KPMG, and PwC. NHH is represented by the Head of the Department of Accounting, Auditing, and Law, as well as the MRR academic director .

    The body contributes to NHH's goal of maintaining an attractive MRR programme with high academic quality, providing relevant competencies for the education of state authorized auditors.

  • REFERENCE GROUPS FOR PROFILES

    REFERENCE GROUPS FOR PROFILES

    Each profile coordinator in the MØA programme has their own reference group. The group consists of a selection of representatives from the breadth of academic disciplines at NHH, at least one student, and at least one representative from the workforce.

  • AoL COMMITTEE

    AoL COMMITTEE

    The Aol committee coordinates the work of establishing effective Assurance of Learning (AoL) systems for all degree awarding study programmes. The committee is chaired by the Vice Rector for Academic Affairs and includes academic directors, Head of Section (NHHE) for Study programmes and Quality, NHHE and AoL coordinator

    The AoL systems assess students' achievement of learning outcomes at the program level.

    Academic Appointment Committee

    The Academic Appointment Committee makes decisions regarding appointments to academic positions. The committee is chaired by the Vice Rector for Faculty Affairs and consists of the department heads, one representative for temporary teaching and research staff, one representative for union representatives, and two student representatives.

    The committee ensures the academic and educational (university pedagogical and didactic) competence of academic staff.

  • PEDAGOGICAL ACADEMY

    PEDAGOGICAL ACADEMY

    The Pedagogical Academy consists of NHH's distinguished educators and is a part of the learning infrastructure at NHH.

    The Pedagogical Academy contributes to a positive learning environment and a collegial teaching culture by participating in pedagogical development work.

  • RECTOR

    RECTOR

    The Rector is the institution's highest academic and administrative leader.

    RESPONSIBILITIES IN THE QUALITY WORK
    The Rector has overall responsibility for the quality and quality work in the educational programmes. The operational responsibility is delegated as follows:

    • For the full-time bachelor's and master's programmes, to the Vice Rector for Academic Affairs.
    • For the Ph.D. programme, to the Vice rector for Research.
    • For continuing and executive education, to the Director, NHHE.
  • VICE RECTOR FOR ACADEMIC AFFAIRS

    VICE RECTOR FOR ACADEMIC AFFAIRS

    The Vice Rector for Academic Affairs  is part of the Rector's leadership team, serves as the Head of the Office of Student and Academic Affairs, chairs the Academic Committee, and holds academic responsibility for the full-time bachelor's and master's programmes.

    The Vice Rector for Academic Affairs has academic and administrative decision-making authority for the full-time bachelor's and master's programmes and holds overall responsibility for programme quality.

    VICE RECTOR FOR RESEARCH

    The Vice Rector for Research is part of the Rector's leadership team, serves as the Head of the Office of Research Administration, chairs the Research Committee, and acts as the Academic Director for the Ph.D. programme.

    The Vice Rector for Research has academic and administrative decision-making authority for the Ph.D. programme and holds overall responsibility for programme quality.

  • ACADEMIC DIRECTOR

    ACADEMIC DIRECTOR

    The Academic Director is the academic leader and coordinator of the study programme, has his/her own reference group and participates in the Academic Director Meeting.

    RESPONSIBILITIES IN THE QUALITY WORK
    Academic Directors  are responsible for ensuring that their respective programmes maintain a high academic standard and meet the relevant laws, regulations, guidelines, and requirements set by the Ministry of Education and Research (KD), NOKUT, and international accreditation bodies. They are also responsible for ensuring compliance with the provisions outlined in NHH’s quality system. 

  • CEMS ACADEMIC DIRECTOR

    CEMS ACADEMIC DIRECTOR

    The CEMS Academic Director (AD) has overall responsibility for the management and quality assurance of the CEMS Master’s in International Management (MIM) at NHH.

    RESPONSIBILITIES IN THE QUALITY WORK 

    Externally, the AD is the main contact for academic issues in the CEMS network. Internally, the AD ensures that the CEMS MIM at NHH is strategically anchored, and in line with the learning objectives of the CEMS MIM and NHH's master's programme.

    DIRECTOR OF NHHE

    The Director of NHHE is the highest academic leader for NHH’s continuing and executive education programmes, NHH Executive (NHHE).

    RESPONSIBILITIES IN THE QUALITY WORK
    The Director of NHHE is responsible for ensuring that the continuing and executive education programmes maintain a high academic standard and comply with relevant laws, regulations, guidelines, and requirements set by the Ministry of Education and Research (KD), NOKUT, and international accreditation bodies. The Director is also responsible for ensuring compliance with the provisions outlined in NHH’s quality system.

  • DEPARTMENT HEAD

    DEPARTMENT HEAD

    The Department Head is the highest academic and administrative leader of the department and chairs the Department Board.

    RESPONSIBILITIES IN THE QUALITY WORK
    The Department Head holds ultimate responsibility for the planning, execution, and evaluation of teaching and assessments in the courses delivered by the department. Additionally, the Department Head is responsible for following up on evaluations and ensuring that necessary changes are implemented.

  • TEACHING COORDINATOR

    TEACHING COORDINATOR

    Each department has a Teaching Coordinator who is part of the department's leadership team and a member of the Academic Committee.

    RESPONSIBILITIES IN THE QUALITY WORK
    The Teaching Coordinator is responsible for facilitating the planning, execution, and evaluation of the courses for which the department is responsible.

    COURSE COORDINATOR

    The Course Coordinator is responsible for the content and quality of the course, including evaluation and continuous improvement. Additionally, the Course Coordinator is responsible for planning and delivering teaching and assessments in a sound and pedagogical manner.

    Each profile in the MØA programme has its own coordinator.

    RESPONSIBILITIES IN THE QUALITY WORK
    The Profile Coordinator is responsible for the composition of the profile's course portfolio, as well as the academic coherence, internal consistency, and progression within the profile.

    Each department has a Ph.D. Coordinator who is part of the department's leadership team.

    RESPONSIBILITIES IN THE QUALITY WORK
    The Ph.D. Coordinator holds academic responsibility for supervising and supporting the Ph.D. students at the department, managing the composition of the department's course portfolio at the Ph.D. level, and ensuring the academic coherence of the specialisation.

    Ph.D. STUDENTS

    Ph.D. students are represented in the Research Committee.

    RESPONSIBILITIES IN THE QUALITY WORK
    Ph.D. students are expected to submit annual progress reports and other relevant information to the Vice Rector for Research and their respective departments. They are also expected to actively participate in various surveys.

  • BACHELOR AND MASTER STUDENTS

    BACHELOR AND MASTER STUDENTS

    Students are represented on the NHH's Board, the Learning Environment Committee, the Academic Committee, reference groups, and various working groups.

    RESPONSIBILITIES IN THE QUALITY WORK
    Students are expected to participate in internal and national surveys and evaluations, provide continuous feedback on the quality of education, and be actively represented in forums where issues related to educational quality are discussed and addressed.

    The Rector's Leadership Team is the highest leadership body at NHH and consists of the Rector, the Vice Rectors, the Director Organization and Governance, and the Director of Communications and External Relations .

    ACADEMIC LEADERSHIP TEAM

    The Academic Leadership Team consists of the Rector's Leadership Team, the Director of NHHE, Head of the Office of Research Administration, and the Department Heads.

    RESPONSIBILITIES IN THE QUALITY WORK
    In the Academic Leadership Team, the institution's leadership addresses matters and topics of strategic, academic, operational, and budgetary significance.

  • RECTOR'S COFFEE MEETINGS

    RECTOR'S COFFEE MEETINGS

    The rectorate holds regular meetings with representatives from the Executive Board (student association board) and the student members of NHH's Board.

    RESPONSIBILITIES IN THE QUALITY WORK
    The Rector's Coffee Meetings provide a forum for exchanging general information and discussing issues of importance to students, as well as topics the rectorate wishes to address with the students.

    The Academic Director meetings are regular meetings between the Vice Rector for Academic Affairs, the programme directors for the full-time bachelor's and master's programs, and representatives from the Section for Educational Quality.

    The Academic Director Meetings serve as a forum for discussing issues relevant to the full-time bachelor's and master's programmes.
