PhD Course: Transforming Economic and Financial Research with AI

From 12-15 October 2026, FAIR and the Department of Economics host a PhD course on generative AI in economics and finance, led by Professor Ingar K. Haaland.

The course, Transforming Economic and Financial Research with AI, will give participants an introduction to how recent developments in generative AI can be used throughout the research process.

Topics include integrating AI into research workflows, working with large language models at scale, and identifying opportunities to apply these tools in participants’ own research projects. The course will also draw on applications from recent research and cover developments in agentic coding, including coding agents and reproducible AI workflows.

The course is led by Ingar K. Haaland, with lectures by Christopher Roth and Luca Braghieri. It takes place at NHH from 12-15 October 2026 and awards 5 ECTS credits.

The course is open to doctoral candidates from NHH and other institutions. The application deadline is 15 September 2026.
