Bertil Tungodden is a professor at the Department of Economics and Director of the Norwegian Centre of Excellence FAIR. He has previously been an Einstein Visiting Fellow at Humboldt University in Berlin. He is an associate editor in Journal of Political Economy and Social Choice and Welfare, and a member of the new Strategy committee of the European Economic Association. He has held an ERC Advanced Grant on the project “Fairness and the moral mind” and a Research Excellence Grant from the Research Council of Norway on “Fair inequality and personal responsibility.”

NHH Professor Bertil Tungodden has been appointed as one of the first ambassadors for the new "Ambassadors for the ERC" network. In this role, he will help promote the importance of frontier research and engage with research communities across Europe.

Tungodden is a professor at the Department of Economics and director of the Centre of Excellence FAIR, which brings together the research groups The Choice Lab and the Centre for Empirical Labor Economics, along with a wide range of national and international collaborators.

As an ERC Ambassador, Tungodden will play a key role in enhancing the visibility and impact of outstanding research. He will participate in events, conferences, and workshops, sharing insights from his own work as an ERC-funded researcher. He will also build relationships with policymakers, researchers, media, and the public to advocate for investments in high-quality research.

The European Research Council (ERC) and the Association of ERC Grantees (AERG) are behind the initiative, which aims to highlight the societal and economic value of research. In total, 32 distinguished researchers from Europe and associated countries have been selected as ambassadors.

"Together, we must continuously remind our fellow citizens why funding frontier research is essential for Europe’s future health and prosperity," said Maria Leptin, President of the ERC, during the launch.
