THERESE EGELAND PROMOTED TO FULL PROFESSOR

Therese Egeland, NHH's expert on organizational psychology and teamwork and host of the podcast "Leadership", has become a professor.

This week, Therese Egeland (formerly Egeland Sverdrup) was promoted to professor. She has been an associate professor at the Department of Strategy and Management.

`I am very happy about the promotion, and feel gratitude for all the nice people I have had the pleasure of working with on my way to become a professor.´

ORGANIZATIONAL PSYCHOLOGIST

Egeland is educated at NTNU, with a major in organizational psychology. She obtained her doctorate at NHH in 2012. She also has experience from the University of Hedmark and the University of Bergen. At NHH, she has had a central role in the research program FOCUS and now DIG, which is based on extensive collaboration with businesses.

The new professor at the Department of Strategy and Management has published articles in a wide range of quality journals, such as Human Resource Management Journal, Human Resource Management Review and Strategic Organization. In 2017, Egeland became vice rector for innovation and development in Øystein Thøgersen's rector's team.

`What are you working on this autumn?

`Currently I am working on several research projects with my good colleagues at SOL, on topics such as management, emotions and teamwork. In addition, we are planning an experiment that we will carry out in 15 upper secondary schools this autumn. Also, a new season of the podcast Leadership and the master's course in teams and team management is planned´.

COMMITTED!

– This week a new semester starts with many new students. A few years ago you received the students' teaching award. They said you were an "exceptionally engaged lecturer". What is it about teaching NHH students that you like so much?

`At NHH, we have motivated and committed students, which makes the job of lecturing extra fun. Because NHH students quite often end up in jobs with a lot of responsibility, both people and important tasks, I am keen to bring out the importance of good values and making a positive difference´.

Start smart

In 2022, Egeland and research colleague Professor Vidar Schei launched a free tool that is tailored for both management teams and colleague teams, called Start smart. It is an aid that will make the collaboration flow better, build psychological security, avoid misunderstandings and broken expectations.

PODCAST "LEADERSHIP"

`And finally: You also do a lot of research dissemination. What is your motivation when you spend time on the "Leadership" podcast and writing op-eds?´

`Most of the research at NHH is relevant for managers and decision-makers, but publishing articles means that you as a researcher communicate more with other researchers. The purpose of the podcast is to bring out all the relevant and useful research for managers and decision-makers´.

Together with SNF researcher Tellef Raabe, the podcast "Leaderskap" has become very popular, perhaps not so surprising when the guest list includes names such as Nicolai Tangen, head of the Oil Fund, chief of defense Eirik Kristoffersen, former DNB top Rune Bjerke and NHH professors such as Christine B Meyer, Inger Stensaker, and competition director Tina Søreide with the episode Travel bills and trust.
