Alexander Willén appointed editor of The Economic Journal

FAIR researcher and NHH Professor Alexander Willén has been appointed editor of one of the leading general-interest journals in economics.

In his new role, Willén will primarily handle submissions in labour economics and related fields, playing a key part in guiding papers through the publication process. His responsibilities include selecting papers for review, managing the referee process, and making publication decisions. The journal currently has eight editors, each focusing on different areas of economics, with each editor typically handling up to 300 papers annually.

“The Economic Journal has a very long and important history in the profession, and I am honored to be joining the editorial team. I also recognize the importance of this responsibility, and I am humbled by the task,” Willén said.

Founded in 1891, The Economic Journal is the world’s second-oldest English-language academic journal in economics. It is published by Oxford University Press on behalf of the Royal Economic Society.

Willén is Professor at the Department of Economics at NHH and a researcher at FAIR. His research focuses primarily on labour economics, economics of education, and public economics. He holds a PhD from Cornell University and has been a professor at NHH since 2021.

The appointment marks an exciting new chapter for Willén and a significant recognition of his work in the field.
