Eirik B. Abel defended his PhD
On Friday, 29 November 2024 Eirik B. Abel held a trial lecture on a prescribed topic and defended his thesis for the PhD degree at NHH. Thesis: «Essays on Equality, Intergenerational Mobility and Family Formations».
Eirik Berger Abel's thesis investigates inequality, social mobility, and human capital in Norway, using natural experiments to uncover causal effects. Scandinavia’s reputation for equality and social mobility motivates this research, aiming to understand the unique factors behind it. Key findings include the impact of the 1936 Primary School Act on lowering fertility rates, WWII’s role in reducing income inequality, rising intergenerational mobility between 1920-1940, and a newly digitized tax record dataset (1900-1970) offering insights into these transformations.
