FAIRNESS ACROSS THE WORLD: THE NATURE AND CONSEQUENCES OF INEQUALITY ACCEPTANCE

In 2018, a group of researchers at the Norwegian School of Economics set off to map the fairness preferences of people around the world. What they discovered is a truly novel data set on the nature of inequality acceptance across the globe.

The findings of Fairness Across the World — a behavioral experiment studying 65,000 participants in 60 countries — will be presented on 5 November at Gallup's world headquarters in Washington, D.C.

Join Nobel laureate Professor Sir Angus Deaton, World Bank Senior Economist Varun Gauri, Professor Rohini Somanathan of the University of Delhi and Professor Bertil Tungodden of the Norwegian School of Economics for a discussion of how conceptions of fairness are related to beliefs about the sources of inequality, the cost of redistribution, and attitudes towards income inequality and their implications for policymaking and social reforms.
