It was during last autumn’s budget negotiations that the Green Party (MDG) secured support for the establishment of a transition commission. In December, the party said that the commission would draw up a strategy for the final phase of Norway’s oil industry.
the world’s longest chapter
`We are now starting to write the final chapter in Norway’s oil history,´ the party said.
`If this is the final chapter, then it would in that case be the world’s longest chapter. It could last 100 years,´ Geir Pollestad of the Centre Party (Sp) replied to VG.
On Friday this week, the names of the members of the Transition Commission were made public, and two NHH researchers are among them. The group will be chaired by Erlend Grimstad of the Centre Party (Sp).
Isabel Montero Hovdahl is an Associate Professor at the Department of Business and Management Science at NHH.
`the socio-economic impacts´
Isabel Montero Hovdahl is an Associate Professor at the Department of Business and Management Science at NHH. She is an environmental economist whose field is climate change. In her research, she uses a combination of empirical methods and theoretical modelling to examine social and economic issues related to climate change.
Hovdahl is particularly interested in exploring measures that can drive the transition to clean energy sources.
`Norway is facing significant challenges in the years ahead when it comes to the energy transition and the phase-out of oil and gas. I look forward to contributing knowledge about the socio-economic impacts, and to working together with highly skilled colleagues on this important task,´ says Hovdahl.
challenging for Norway
Linda Nøstbakken is Director of Research at Statistics Norway, while on partial leave from her position as Professor at the Department of Economics at NHH. Her research focuses on the use and management of natural resources and the environment.
`The commission will address issues that are both highly important and challenging for Norway in the years ahead. I am grateful for the trust placed in me and look forward to contributing to what will certainly be exciting work,´ says Nøstbakken.
