New Committee to Review Judicial Salaries and Independence
Associate Professor Iver Bragelien has been appointed as a member of a new committee established by the Presidium of the Norwegian Parliament (Stortinget).
Currently, the salaries of Supreme Court justices are determined by Parliament, based on recommendations from the Presidium. The newly formed committee will assess potential new legislation for determining the salaries of Supreme Court justices, as well as the compensation and remuneration schemes for a range of public positions.
The mandate also includes evaluating how such a system can safeguard the independence of the judiciary in accordance with the Norwegian Constitution and international obligations.
Iver Bragelien is an Associate Professor at the Department of Business and Management Science at NHH. He joins the committee alongside Professor Nils-Henrik M. von der Fehr (chair), Members of Parliament Svein Harberg and Rigmor Aasrud, and Professor Ragna Aarli.
The committee is expected to deliver its report to the Presidium of the Parliament by June 2026.
