Sugar taxation in Norway

Most people seem to agree; a reduction in sugar content in grocery products is overall positive. However, which means to use to obtain such a reduction, is under debate.

One might ask whether the Government’s increase in the Norwegian sugar tax from January this year was mostly a mean to balance state budgets rather than a well thought of change in regulations. This article (in Norwegian) discusses what we can learn from new international research, evaluating implementation of similar regulation tools elsewhere. In particular, the article discuss what we can anticipate in terms of consumer responses.
