Does it make a difference that investors care?

Gunnar S. Eskeland and Jens Sørlie Kværner: Finance is a game between people trying to fool each other, but finance is also an advanced machine that decides where the capital flows. The question is whether finance really can starve "sinful" activities on capital.

It is common knowledge that the Government Pension Fund of Norway (the Oil Fund) does not want to own coal stocks. And noone are suprised if someone who owns a car, a salmon river or a cargo vessel cares about it and about what other people think of it, Gunnar S. Eskeland and Jens Sørlie Kværner write.

Their feature article Nytter det at investorer bryr seg? (in Norwegian) was published in Dagens Næringsliv on 1 August, 2020.
