Man and Machine Together in Sweet Harmony: Generating Qualitative Research Data Using Artificial Intelligence

Abstract:

Artificial intelligence (AI) is penetrating society and organizations in various ways - and it's here to stay. Researchers and practitioners, including doctors, lawyers, and consultants, have started using AI for analysing and inferring from data. However, researchers have so far ignored AI for generating qualitative research data. In this seminar, Ivan and Christer will first present insights from a concluded data generation process where AI was used in comparison with a human-led process, thus shedding some light on the strengths and weaknesses of AIs in this regard. Second, we will together play around with and modify an AI interviewer to see the potential offered by an AI solution. No technical expertise is required, and the seminar is relevant for those conducting qualitative and quantitative research. Hope to see you there!

If you'd like a warm up to the seminar, this podcast about research provides entertaining insights into and critical perspective on the use of large language models in qualitative research.
