AI in a changed geopolitical landscape

We are witnessing a time of rapid and profound global change – geopolitical tensions are rising, and trade relations and power balances are shifting.

In this landscape, digital technologies – especially artificial intelligence (AI) – are emerging not only as a strategic resource but also as a catalyst for innovation.

This is why we are making this the main subject at the DIG Summit 2025, on November 5, at NHH in Bergen.

The convergence of technology, economy, leadership, and politics is opening new opportunities – and will propel Norway and the Nordic region to the forefront of AI-driven sustainable growth.

That is why we bring together leaders, researchers, and industry to discuss how AI can be used both as a driver of innovation and a tool for sustainable growth – in a Nordic and global context.

What to expect?

At the DIG Summit 2025 you will meet (from left) Associate Professor Jialei Yang of NHH (photo: NHH), Professor Alexander Lundervold of NHH (photo: Joakim S. Enger) and Research Manager for Analytics and AI at research foundation Sintef, Signe Riemer-Sørensen (photo: Sintef)

You will hear from some of the leading experts on the subject at DIG. Associate professor Jialei Yang will address the topic "Driving and Scaling the Adoption of AI Through Greater Openness"

- In my presentation, I will explore how greater openness—encompassing open platforms, ecosystems, and open-source activities—can accelerate the adoption and scaling of AI. I will emphasize that AI development and adoption are dependent not only on technical advancements but also on open-innovation culture and leadership. In addition to discussing the outside-in approach of integrating external ideas, I will also talk about the inside-out approach to seeding and fostering ecosystems. Besides sharing academic findings, I will share some cases regarding front-line AI challenges and opportunities faced by leading companies in Silicon Valley today, she tells us.

Head of research at research foundation Sintef, Signe Riemer-Sørensen, will share academic perspectives.

- We keep hearing everywhere that we need to adopt more AI to become more efficient. Language-based AI gets a lot of attention, but the greatest potential for value creation doesn’t lie in language models. It lies in predictive AI and autonomous decision-making. The problem is, it’s just much harder to achieve, she says.

Alexander Lundervold examines how AI systems are evolving from being mere tools to becoming digital co-workers capable of acting more independently. He explores where and how it makes sense to apply AI. In recent years, the development has accelerated—from simple aids to systems that can plan and carry out more complex tasks. This requires a new way of thinking about where AI actually creates value in organizations.
