PhD Course with Matthew Rabin

Last week was an inspiring opportunity for in-person learning with Professor Matthew Rabin (Harvard University) at the Norwegian School of Economics (NHH).

The PhD course, hosted by FAIR, brought together an international group of researchers for a deep dive into the intersection of psychology and economics.

Incorporating Psychology into Economic Models — A Week with Matthew Rabin at NHH

The course, “Incorporating Psychology into Economic Models”, offered participants an in-depth exploration of how psychological mechanisms can be integrated into economic frameworks, and how such models can enhance our understanding of key economic questions.

Across the week, lectures were complemented by student presentations, interactive discussions, and open office hours, providing space for both academic exchange and personal feedback. Many participants, including behavioral economics PhD researchers, valued the opportunity to present their ongoing work and receive constructive insights from Professor Rabin, NHH faculty, and an engaged audience.

Beyond the academic program, the week fostered friendships and idea exchanges among PhD scholars from around the world — all set against the backdrop of Bergen, known as Europe’s rainiest city and one of its most charming.

A special thanks goes to Alexander Cappelen, Bertil Tungodden, and Susanne Bøe Løge for making this course possible and for their warm, welcoming approach.

As one participant summed it up: “An intellectually enriching experience — and one I hope to continue in future collaborations.”
