Corporal punishment in Tanzania schools
FIT collaborates with CMI and partners in Tanzania, Economic and Social Research Foundation (ESRF) and Dar es Salaam University College of Education (DUCE), in a Research Council of Norway-funded project aimed at reducing corporal punishment in education.
Caning is still frequently used as a method of disciplining students in many countries around the world, despite evidence of its negative effect on the students’ mental health and learning. The aim of our project is to replace this negative teaching practice with a positive incentive, and to evaluate the impact using a randomized controlled trial.
