Floris Zoutman is a Professor at the Department of Business and Management Science.

All three newly promoted professors have made significant contributions to their fields and meet the strict criteria for promotion, which include a substantial body of internationally recognized research. Their work spans topics from taxation and political economy to business analytics and simulation models, to advanced statistical methods with applications in finance and climate research.

Floris Zoutman

Floris Zoutman is a Professor in public economics at the Department of Business and Management Science. He joined NHH as a postdoctoral researcher in 2013 and holds a PhD in Economics from Erasmus University Rotterdam.

His research interests include optimal taxation, political competition, and social insurance.

For promotion to professor, candidates are required to have at least eight publications in recognized scientific journals. The committee evaluated nine of Zoutman's papers.

Selected publications in leading journals include:

  • “Optimal Taxation with Multiple Incomes and Types”, forthcoming in Theoretical Economics (with K. Spiritus, E. Lehmann, S. Renes)
  • “The big short (interest): Closing the loopholes in the dividend-withholding tax”. Accepted at American Economic Journal: Economic Policy (with Elisa Casi, Evelina Gavrilova, David Murphy)

Geir Drage Berentsen

Geir Drage Berentsen is a Professor at the Department of Business and Management Science. He joined NHH in 2019 as an assistant professor. His research interests include count time series, longitudinal data and spatial models with applications in finance, medicine and econometrics.

In 2024, Berentsen and Professor Håkon Otneim received an award for their excellent teaching. They are also active in the research centre Climate Futures.

Berentsen has submitted 15 scientific papers, well above the minimum norm of 8-12 full-length journal papers. Seven papers are published in level 2 journals and more have received a “revise and resubmit” decision at level 2 outlets. Nine papers have been published or submitted since 2021, underlining that his work is at the research frontier.
