As the second-largest city in Norway, Bergen is home to approximately 280,000 inhabitants.

With a history dating back to the early 11th century, the city's heritage is deeply rooted in its maritime significance. Its rich maritime heritage extends to being the home of the Norwegian Navy, symbolizing its enduring connection to the sea.

Bergen played a crucial role as a bureau city of the Hanseatic League. One of its most iconic attractions, Bryggen, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, preserving the Hanseatic Wharf's historical architecture and significance.

Today, Bergen thrives as an international center for aquaculture, shipping, the offshore petroleum industry, and subsea technology.

Bergen is not only a hub for commerce but also a vibrant cultural center. It boasts a lively cultural scene with numerous museums, galleries, and festivals. The city's artistic legacy includes internationally renowned composers such as Edvard Grieg and Ole Bull, who have left an indelible mark on the world of classical music.

In Bergen, you can experience a harmonious blend of natural beauty, cultural richness, and economic vitality.

The city is also a good starting point if you wish to explore other parts of western Norway, including the fjords.

If you want to extend your stay and visit Oslo, connections from Bergen are very good both by air and the Bergen-Oslo railway.
