Knut J. Ims is Professor in business ethics at the Department of Strategy and Management at the Norwegian School of Economics in Bergen, Norway. He has a PhD (Manager in Dialogue, Universitetforlaget, 1987) from The School of Economics and Legal Science, Gothenburg University, Sweden, and teaches business ethics at bachelor, master and PhD levels.

He has been a visiting scholar at Corvinus University of Budapest, Wheaterhead School of Management, Case Western Reserve University, University of Illinois at Urbana Champagne, and at the Catholic University of Buenos Aires. He has a degree as civil economist, and cand.oecon. from NHH, and was appointed Assistant Professor at the Department of Information Systems Research in 1983.

In 1987 he was appointed the leader of a committee to assess the need of business ethics as part of the civil economist curriculum at NHH. He was then asked to implement business ethics in the compulsory strategy course in 1990. In 1992 “Informasjonsetikk i praksis” (Informationethics in practice) was published and his work was more and more oriented towards business ethics. 

He has been an active member of the business ethics faculty of the CEMS - The Global Alliance in Management Education since 2001. He has been either member or Chairman of the board of NHH’s center of Ethics and Economy, since its start in 2001.
