An Extraordinary Professor – Tor W. Andreassen Turns 70
Yes, you read that right. Tor W. Andreassen is turning 70. And as he said when looking at his birth certificate: “I don’t believe it.” Neither do we.
With tireless energy, a sharp eye for what matters, and a constant drive to renew himself both professionally and personally, Tor has been a key force in Norwegian and international research on innovation and services.
After many years at BI, Tor returned “home” to NHH in 2013 to continue his career as a professor of innovation at the Department of Strategy and Management. There, he didn’t just study innovation – he practiced it. By leading the research centers SFI Center for Service Innovation and DIG – Digital Innovation for Sustainable Growth – he helped shape how we understand value creation in times of technological and societal change.
Tor has always been deeply committed to strengthening Norway’s competitiveness and building a sustainable economy – not just in theory, but in practice. He has been a strong public voice, one of NHH’s most visible researchers in the media, and someone who praises when deserved and challenges when needed.
Colleagues describe him as academically uncompromising, strategically visionary, and always with a twinkle in his eye. Students and younger researchers know him as generous, encouraging, and clear. For many, he has been a mentor and sparring partner – always with integrity and passion.
Though Tor is now formally retiring, he’s unlikely to slow down. His digital pen remains sharp, his societal engagement is strong, and we expect to see more of his insights – in conferences, op-eds, debates, and new projects.
Congratulations on turning 70, Tor, and thank you for your contributions, insights, and inspiration. You’ve left a lasting mark, and we look forward to what comes next. The door at NHH is always open – and the coffee is ready!
