RankMyAI update
Norway's AI sector is growing fast. We are therefore launching an updated ranking and an interactive map of companies headquartered in Norway that develop AI-powered products and solutions. The work is a collaboration between NHH, Abelia, SNF og RankmyAI.
Artificial intelligence is reshaping industries, redefining business models, and giving rise to entirely new categories of companies. Yet tracking this development remains a challenge. As a general-purpose technology, AI cannot be confined to a single product, service, or industry. Instead, it is built into products, services, and workflows across every sector.
This deep integration makes it difficult to see which companies are actually driving AI innovation, what they are building, and how they are performing. Traditional industry classifications and technology labels fall short. AI is not always visible on the surface, and many companies developing with AI do not necessarily present themselves as "AI tool companies."
An updated snapshot and a map to explore
The ranking combines independent data on web traffic, investment activity, and user reviews, giving a performance-based view of the sector and not just a list of who exists, but an indication of who is gaining visibility and momentum.
The new map lets you explore the companies geographically and by domain: where they are located, which fields they operate in, and how they compare across key indicators. Together, the ranking and the map make it easier to navigate a field that is otherwise fragmented and hard to grasp.

Why it matters
The findings are relevant to anyone interested in innovation, business development, and the societal impact of technology. For policymakers and public authorities, the overview provides an evidence base for understanding where in Norway AI development is taking place, which sectors are gaining momentum, and where targeted support may be needed. For investors and industry leaders, it offers a clear picture of which companies are gaining visibility and scaling. And for researchers and educational institutions, it points to where collaboration, talent development, and knowledge transfer can have the greatest effect.
An open note on method and coverage
We want to be clear that the ranking and the map do not provide a complete, definitive record of every AI company in Norway. They are built on a specific methodology, and any such approach has grey areas: what counts as an "AI company," where the line falls between core activity and use of the technology, and which companies are captured by the data sources. Some companies are certainly missing, and some boundaries are open to debate. We are transparent about these assumptions precisely so that the overview can be scrutinized and improved over time.
Help build a more complete overview
To ensure that future editions are as accurate and inclusive as possible, we encourage Norwegian AI companies to check that they are listed in the RankmyAI database. If your company is missing, you can easily add it – and in doing so, help strengthen the evidence base for the entire sector.
The ranking and the map were developed by RankmyAI in collaboration with NHH, Abelia and SNF.
