Bulder is Norway’s Most Innovative Company

The seven‑year‑old company tops the Norwegian Innovation Index. «We are fundamentally dissatisfied with the status quo,» says Bulder CEO Simen Eilertsen.

The Norwegian Innovation Index was presented on Wednesday at NHH’s Oslo campus. The annual ranking measures how innovative Norwegian companies are, as perceived by their customers.

This year, Bulder is the clear winner. The fully digital bank ranks first on the digital innovation index and has the highest average score across all three categories. In addition to the digital innovation index, the ranking measures social and commercial innovation capability. Following Bulder on the list are Tise, Tesla, Vipps and Tibber.

Bulder celebrates

«This is fantastic. The results show that we’ve struck a nerve in the Norwegian market. It’s incredible to see how clearly customers notice our commitment to them, and that we are constantly evolving. We’re a small team, but deeply curious about our customers and fundamentally dissatisfied with the status quo,» says Bulder's Simen Eilertsen.

Bulder was established in 2019 and quickly gained market share in the mortgage market. Now, Norwegian consumers regard the company as the country’s most innovative and customer‑friendly.

«Bulder follows customers closely and delivers solutions that simplify everyday life — from automatic interest‑rate adjustments to an innovative mobile app. Customers describe Bulder as ‘simple’, ‘open’ and ‘proactive’,» says Heinonen.

Strong improvement — and a comeback

This year’s measurement also highlights several significant jumps among established companies:

  • Sbanken is one of the companies climbing the most compared with last year. For several years, the bank ranked at the top of the NII, but plunged after the DNB acquisition in 2022/2023. Now it is on the way up again.
  • NRK and NAV also show substantial improvement in all three categories.
  • Tise is the most innovative within socially oriented solutions this year, ahead of Stormberg and Bilia.
  • Tesla retains its position as the most commercially innovative company, and is breathing down Bulder’s neck in the overall ranking.

«A common pattern among the companies that stand out is that they help people in their everyday lives through user‑friendly and efficient solutions,» Heinonen continues.

She adds that customers reward companies with a strong sustainability profile. She highlights Tise, Finn.no and Tesla for contributing to greater environmental awareness, as well as Tibber and Bulder for helping people save money.

«How will you maintain your position as Norway’s most innovative company?»

«Trying to maintain something is a defensive strategy in an offensive market. The benchmarks for both speed and customer closeness are being rewritten as we speak. We will simply double down on what brought us here: a deep hunger on behalf of our customers — every single day,» Eilertsen promises.

«Moss doesn’t grow on a rolling stone!»
