This page provides general information about the education systems and visa regulations in countries where NHH has exchange agreements. Additional information about individual host universities can be found through the links on the right.

  • Argentina

    Argentina

    You may choose to study at the Universidad Torcuato di Tella.

    Academic Calendar

    Degree Structure

    • In Argentina, bachelor’s degree programs typically last four or five years (licenciado), while master’s degrees last one year (especialización) or two years (maestría).

    Credit System

    • Four courses correspond to 30 Norwegian credits.

    Language of Instruction

    • The primary language of instruction is Spanish, with few courses taught in English. You will need to document your Spanish language proficiency before participating in the exchange program on the master's level. 

    Visa

    • You may travel to Argentina on a tourist visa (valid for three months) and apply for a student visa after arrival, or you may apply in advance through the Argentinean embassy in Oslo.
    • Obtaining a visa typically requires submission of a medical certificate, police certificate, birth certificate, and the letter of acceptance from the host university where you are nominated for exchange. Your passport must be valid for at least six months beyond your intended return date. Please note that visa requirements may vary by country.
  • Australia

    Australia

    You may choose to study at Curtin UniversityMacquarie UniversityMonash University, the University of Melbourne, the University of New South Wales, the University of Queensland, the University of Sydney, the University of Tasmania or the University of Western Australia.

    Academic Calendar

    • Fall semester: July/August - November/December

    In Australia, the fall semester is referred to as Semester 2, and the spring semester as Semester 1.

    Degree Structure

    • Bachelor’s degrees in Australia typically last three or four years (undergraduate degree), while master’s degrees usually last one year (graduate diploma) or two years (postgraduate degree).

    Credit System

    • Australian universities do not have a uniform credit system; however, in general, four courses correspond to 30 Norwegian credits.

    Language of Instruction

    • The primary language of instruction is English. You may need to document your English language proficiency prior to the exchange.

    Visa

    • You must apply for a student visa online. A Confirmation of Enrollment (CoE) from the host university must be attached to your application. 
    • Obtaining a visa may also require submission of a medical certificate, police certificate, birth certificate, and the letter of acceptance from the host university where you are nominated for exchange. Your passport must be valid for at least six months beyond your intended return date. Please note that visa requirements may vary by country.

    • In Brazil, bachelor’s degrees (bacharelado or licenciatura) typically require four to five years of study. Master’s degrees (mestrado) generally last one or two years.

    Credit System

    • FGV Rio de Janeiro (undergraduate): A 30-hour course corresponds to 4 ECTS credits.
    • INSPER (undergraduate): A 40-hour course corresponds to 5 ECTS credits.
    • FGV São Paulo (undergraduate): A 30-hour course corresponds to 5 ECTS credits.
    • FGV Rio de Janeiro (graduate): Each 30-hour course corresponds to 5 ECTS credits.
    • FGV São Paulo (graduate): The university follows the ECTS system; typically, each course is worth 6 ECTS credits, although this may vary.

    Language of Instruction

    • The primary language of instruction is Portuguese, though many courses are also offered in English.

    Visa

    • You must apply for a visa at the Brazilian embassy in Oslo. 
    • Obtaining a visa may also require submission of a medical certificate, police certificate, birth certificate, and the letter of acceptance from the host university where you are nominated for exchange.     Degree Structure

    • In Canada, a bachelor’s degree typically requires four years of full-time study at the undergraduate level, while master’s degrees (postgraduate programs) generally last one year.

    Credit System

    • Canadian universities do not use a standardized national credit system. The conversion of 30 ECTS can range from 2.5 to 15 Canadian credits, depending on the institution. Students are therefore advised to verify the credit equivalency directly with their host university.

    Language of Instruction

    • The primary language of instruction in Canada is English, except in the province of Québec, where the main language of instruction is French. However, many universities in Québec also offer courses in English. Students wishing to study in Québec may be required to provide proof of French language proficiency.

    Visa

    • If you plan to stay in Canada for less than six months, you only need to register for an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA). For stays longer than six months, you must apply for a Study Permit. As part of the Study Permit application process, you will need to submit biometric information, which can be completed at Canadian embassies in Stockholm, Paris, or London.
    • Obtaining a visa may also require submission of a medical certificate, police certificate, birth certificate, and the letter of acceptance from the host university where you are nominated for exchange. Your passport must be valid for at least six months beyond your intended return date. Please note that visa requirements may vary by country.

    • The language of instruction is primarily Mandarin Chinese, and in Hong Kong often Cantonese.
      However, many courses are also offered in English.

  • Costa Rica

    • The language of instruction is primarily Spanish, although many courses are also offered in English.

    Visa

    • A visa is not required for stays of less than 90 days in Costa Rica. Although Costa Rica does not have an embassy in Norway, students may contact the Costa Rican Embassy in London for visa information and assistance.
    • Obtaining a visa may also require submission of a medical certificate, police certificate, birth certificate, and the letter of acceptance from the host university where you are nominated for exchange.   • Denmark

    Degree Structure

    • France follows the European higher education model, consisting of the bachelor’s degree (licence) and the master’s degree (maîtrise). NHH is partnered with several highly ranked Grandes Écoles, which offer five-year programs comprising two preparatory years (classes préparatoires) followed by three intensive years of study. Graduate exchange students from NHH typically enroll in courses from the second year of the Grande École program.

    Degree Structure
