Domestic Solar Energy Often Benefits Both the Climate and the Economy, but Not Yet in Norway

Øyvind Bøhren, Per Ivar Gjærum and Torkel Hasle: Our analysis shows disappointing emissions, that solar energy is unprofitable for society (and mostly also for the private owner), and misleading marketing.

Last year more than 1600 Norwegian households installed solar panels on the roofs. Enova pays approximately 15 % of the bill, probably because solar energy, in their opinion, benefits both the climate and the economy. Solar panel sellers are of the same opinion, and even more so, Øyvind Bøhren, Per Ivar Gjærum and Torkel Hasle write.

Their feature article (based on a forthcoming article in Samfunnsøkonomen) Norsk boligsolstrøm er dessverre ingen solskinnshistorie (in Norwegian) was published in Dagens Næringsliv on 29 September, 2021.
