Time to upgrade your business model?

In this one-day course we give you an intensive introduction to the field of business models, how they can be innovated and how you can apply this to your own business. Addressing the business models has turned out to be maybe the most critical part of business development in competitive markets.

In today’s fast changing environments, most businesses need to reconsider their business model to be able to keep or regain competitive advantage. We bring you an overview of the state-of-the-art research, followed by an introduction to methods for analyzing current business models. The analysis often reveals a need to redesign the business model to regain competitive advantage. In the second part of the course, we focus on business model innovation; how do you go about this challenge and which tools are accessible? We guide you on the way and give you applicable tools and models.

To develop skills to innovate your business models, you will be involved in group work to study real-life business cases and apply the models and tools you have been introduced to in the first part of the course. This is an important part of the learning process and we expect all participants to actively involve themselves in this work.

We encourage all participants to bring a real business case that we can use or discuss in the course, either in the plenary sessions or in the group work. This will be part on the preparation for the course.

Topics to be covered

  • Defining business models and why are they important?  (theoretical background)
  • Business model innovation part I - the need for reconsidering our business model in a changing market environment
  • Business model innovation part II -  implementing a new business model (discussing experimentation, implementation, etc.)
  • New business models in your industry – the need for change and how to respond to it (group work and presentations)
  • Summary and conclusions

Target group

The course is aimed at managers/executives with P&L responsibility, business consultants, board members, investors, incubators, entrepreneurs, financial analysts.

Course format

During the course, we will apply a general seminar form, with plenary lessons, group discussions and review of practical cases.

We require no prior formal knowledge of the topic, but expect participants to read through the course literature that will be distributed in advance. However, your knowledge and experience is essential! Contribute actively in the discussions and in the work otherwise. It creates a better output for yourself and everyone involved.
