The Digital Transformation Hub at NHH
The HUB@NHH will assist leaders in their strategic decision making on how to create, deliver, communicate, and capture value in a digital era.
The HUB is the first step in a planned development of a national research center that will focus various aspects of digital innovations for sustainable growth: Digital Innovation for Growth (DIG).
DIG is planned located at the Department of Strategy and Management. Tentative startup is September 2020. DIG will provide leaders participating at the HUB with research-based insight, discussions, inspirations, and networking.
Foreseeing the need for a national research center focusing on business aspects of digital innovations and transformation, Telenor Group and NHH Norwegian School of Economics launched, during the Arendalsuken 2019, the Digital Transformation Hub @NHH.
As a leading European business school, NHH aims to support leaders in the digital transformation of incumbent service-oriented firms and its impact on consumers, business model, and the firm’s organization, leadership and strategy. Our goal is to assist leaders in their strategic decision making on how to create, deliver and capture value in a digital era.
Standing on the shoulders of SFI CSI Center for Service Innovation (an eight-years research project funded by Research Council of Norway) and the NHH research centers FOCUS and STOP, the strategic vision and business model was described in a SFI-application that was submitted 25th September 2019 to the Research Council of Norway. The outcome will be known by June 2020.
The HUB@NHH will inform leaders on the latest research from collaborations between NTNU’s Norwegian Open Artificial Intelligence Lab (NAIL) and NHH. Under this cooperation, NHH will assume responsibility for AI research in business. We brand this as NAIL Business@NHH.
The intermediate period is led by associate professor Tina Saebi, a leading researcher in business model innovation, and Dr Frank Elter, SVP Telenor Research who will give research and educational content to “The Hub @NHH”.
CSI - CENTER FOR SERVICE INNOVATION
CSI was a coordinated effort by NHH Norwegian School of Economics to focus on the innovation challenges facing the service sector.
CSI was among the Norwegian Centers for Researched-based innovation (SFI - Sentre for forskningsdrevet innovasjon), funded by the Research Council of Norway (RCN). The total CSI budget was 164 million NOK over 8 years, with 80 Millions of these granted by RCN.
NHH was the host and administrative institution for the center, in collaboration with Centre for applied research at NHH (SNF). The additional research partners were SINTEF and Oslo School of Architecture and Design (AHO).
CSI's Final Report
Center for Service Innovation’s (CSI) final report summarizes highlights from eight years of extraordinary service innovation research conducted together with partners to realize CSI’s vision:
“Through its internationally recognized research and collaboration between research and commercial partners, CSI will support innovation in service and service organizations.
CSI’s sub-goals include:
- enhance the service innovation capabilities of its business and research partners
- improve the commercial success of Norwegian service providers’ service innovation activities
- measure Norway’s service innovation capability
The complexity of service innovation has covered design thinking and customer experiences via business models and organizational culture to leadership. In this report we discuss some of the main findings from CSI’s four research areas:
1. Business Model Innovation (BMI)
2. Managing and Organizing for Service innovation and Transformation (MOST)
3. Service Design and Customer Experience (SD&CE)
4. Service Innovation Economics (SIE)
NHH Norwegian School of Economics was the first, and currently only business school to receive a grant under Research Council Norway’s (RCN) prestigious Center for Research-based Innovations (SFI) program.
CSI has proved to be a success, not only for partner companies but also for research partners, faculty and students. RCN’s SFI program has proved to be ideal for leading business schools like NHH, who thrive on interaction with and the ability to learn from and with major companies.
Based on CSI’s research, NHH-faculty have created a new master profile “New Business Development”, and updated existing bachelor, master, executive, and PhD-courses. Building on the unique service innovation competence acquired through CSI, NHH will continue to build a world-class innovation research faculty with a focus on digital innovation for sustainable growth - something that would have been much harder without the CSI-experience.
