Katrine V. Løken has a PhD from the University of Bergen and with her research she has contributed to a growing literature on early investments in children and the long-term outcomes and effects of different social policies, with a focus on identifying causal effects of policies such as parental leave, subsidized day care, the father’s quota in leave, and cash subsidies for families. The long-term effects of the many Norwegian policies introduced from 1975-1995 are highly relevant to other countries, as many are now looking to introduce similar policies. Recently, she has started a new project that examines the causal effects of incarceration, which she was drawn to research due to the demand for more careful causal analyses of important aspects related to the economics of crime.
