The Language Council on our language guidelines
Åse Wetås, Director of the Language Council of Norway, encourages NHH employees to apply our language policy guidelines for the sake of our students and the Norwegian society. On 21 November, she organised a seminar at the Literature House in Bergen together with NHH rector Øystein Thøgersen, UoB rector Dag Rune Olsen and HVL pro-rector Liv Reidun Grimstvedt.
Åse Wetås also encouraged NHH, the University of Bergen and the Western Norway University of Applied Sciences to share experiences in relation to the organization, implementation and measures of the institutions' language policy guidelines. All three institutions have drawn up new language policy guidelines over the past couple of years.
"In preparing the revised language policy guidelines for the NHH board, we tried to take various aspects into consideration and to find a good balance between them," says Øystein.
"The balances were, among other things, about what would be ideal and what would be possible to implement. It was also about the balance between being an international organisation and delivering on our social mission towards the Norwegian society. For us, it was important to adopt language policy guidelines that we would be able to apply. It was therefore crucial to listen carefully to input from the departments. I think the result is an ok compromise between these various considerations."
Establishing practices that ensure compliance with the guidelines is a line management responsibility.
