Full speed ahead with CEMS

40 NHH CEMS students graduated and 20 alumni attended the CEMS annual events in Vienna a couple of weeks ago. Rector Øystein and several members of our CEMS team had fruitful interaction with colleagues at other partner institutions and took part in the networking, sharing of best practice and celebrations.

CEMS at NHH

  • The CEMS Master's in International Management (CEMS MIM) is an international degree that students can take at 3 leading academic institutions around the world.
  • NHH is the only school in Norway that is a member of the alliance.
  • The master’s degree is on the Financial Times’ top 10 list of the world’s best masters in management.
  • CEMS is suited to highly qualified master’s students with a strong international orientation and who want an international focus in their work.
  • All students who take an MSc in Economics and Business Administration at NHH can apply for admission to CEMS MIM.
  • Students taking a bachelor’s degree at NHH can apply during the last year of their bachelor’s programme or first year of their master's programme.

This time it was the Vienna University of Economics and Business which hosted the annual events. Around 2,800 international guests came together to network and share and exchange ideas regarding international management education. More than 800 of the students who graduated as CEMS class of 2019, were present.

Want to engage with CEMS?

An important part of the CEMS MIM programme is the CEMS Business Project, where groups of three to five students work on real-world problems for corporate or social partners. These projects are supervised by an academic mentor from NHH as well as a corporate mentor from the partner. Being an academic mentor for business projects is one important way for you as a faculty member to engage with CEMS.

Incentives for NHH faculty

"To ensure high quality faculty contribution to the business projects, NHH has recently implemented a system to provide incentives for faculty contributions", says Jan I. Haaland, Academic Director of CEMS at NHH.

He continues: "From 2019, faculty assigned to CEMS business projects will receive credits equivalent to supervising a master’s thesis for each business project they supervise."

Evaluations and action plan

In the spring term of 2019, the CEMS Master's in International Management at NHH was evaluated by an external Peer Review Team, following NHH’s own self-evaluation of the programme. The purpose of the evaluation was to give feedback on the ongoing CEMS work and in particular to point to areas for further development.

The evaluation gave very good feedback to NHH and resulted in an action plan for the period 2019-2024. The action plan was developed in close collaboration with relevant units at NHH, and includes areas like strengthening the CEMS brand within and outside the school; increasing the number of events gathering students, alumni and corporate partners, and monitoring and updating the core courses and seminars.
