Economics in Norway has developed from being a rather small field in the 1950’s to being a major factor in policy-making and development of society. Agnar Sandmo is among the most important contributors to the field.
Sandmo started at NHH in 1963, became a full professor in 1971, and stayed active as a researcher and author even after his retirement in 2008.
On Monday 26 August, the publisher Cappelen Damm releases Sandmo’s memoirs, Mitt liv som økonom (My life as an economist). The book is in Norwegian.
“Here, Sandmo looks back on the development of Economics as a field through times with both exceptional economic growth and a steadily increasing interest for Economics as such,” the publishing house writes in their presentation of the book.
Sandmo has also been an important contributor to NHH and The Department of Economics.
Friday 30 August, the department invites to a presentation of the book. Speakers include Rector Øystein Thøgersen, Department head Eirik Gaard Kristiansen, UiO Professor Kalle Moene, and Adjunct Professor at NHH and former director of the Norwegian Central Bank, Svein Gjedrem.
There will be light refreshments. All NHH employees are welcome.
