He is one of the two new Assistant Professors at the Department of Finance affiliated to the Centre for Corporate Finance in a seven year tenure track position. Maxilimilian Rohrer is the other one.
Jose's research focuses on Financial Markets and Institutional Investors, and he is teaching the course Corporate Finance.
José Albuquerque de Sousa is from Portugal. After obtaining a degree in Architecture at the University of Porto, Portugal, and an exchange at the Technical University in Berlin, Germany, he worked for 10 years as an architect in The Netherlands.
His PhD project "Nascent markets: Understanding the success and failure of new stock markets" was under the supervision of Professors Mathijs van Dijk and Peter van Bergeijk (2014).
During his PhD studies, José went on a research visit to Haas School of Business, University of California at Berkeley, hosted by Professor Gustavo Manso. He presented his work, among others, at the Annual Meeting of the European Finance Association (Oslo, 2016), the Annual Meeting of the American Economics Association (Chicago, 2017), and the Annual Meeting of the Financial Markets Association (Boston, 2017).
Both his master's degree and his pre-master's is from the Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University. He received the “Best student award” and the Honors Class “Best essay award”. During his master's studies, he worked as a research assistant for Professor Mathijs van Dijk.
