    The course presents advanced topics within behavioral economics. It will consist of ten lectures over four days. The students will also be given the opportunity to present their own research.



    Irrationality in economic behaviour, behavioural economics, hyperbolic discounting, choices over time, savings, self-control problems, beta-delta model

The course is supported by the National Research Council ("Nasjonalt fagråd for samfunnsøkonomi" og "Den nasjonale forskerskolen i bedriftsøkonomi"), and participants not from Bergen can apply to NHH for reimbursement of travel and boarding expenses (subject to a total budget constraint).     Learning outcome

    The aim of the course is to give the students an understanding of how to understand irrational economic behaviour, where a main focus will be on hyperbolic discounting and choices over time. The course will also cover many different applications of these issues and aim at being of interest for students in all fields of economics and business administration.


    At the end of the course, students:


    is in the forefront of knowledge within behavioural economics


    can evaluate the expediency and application of different methods within this field


    can contribute to the development of new knowledge, new theories and methods in behavioural economics

    Required prerequisites

    Students taking part in the course should have basic training in economics at the master level, which means that well qualified students who have not yet completed their master can be given permission to take part in the course.

    The student will have to write a research paper on a topic covered in the course (15 pages, pass/fail)
