Welcome to the PhD programme at NHH
The PhD programme at NHH is designed for those seeking careers in academic research and teaching within the fields of economics and business administration.
The programme is geared specifically for young researchers whose main interest is scholarly research and teaching, and the majority of our graduates go on to work in academic institutions.

Research profile
NHH is Norway's leading research and teaching institution in the fields of economics and business administration. The school is a central node in the national Norwegian network of institutions of research and higher education and co-operates internationally, in both research and teaching, with major academic institutions in a number of countries.
Student experience
NHH has a modern campus located by the sea just outside the centre of Bergen, the gateway to the famous Norwegian fjords. All PhD students receive a brand new laptop computer and their own office space when joining NHH, and the on-campus sports facilities, beautiful nature and great social environment enable PhD students to achieve an optimal work-life balance.
Costs and financing
As a publicly-funded university, NHH does not charge any application, admission or tuition fees to Norwegian or international students. The main source of funding for PhD students at NHH is through employement as a salaried research scholar at the school.
Application and admission
The PhD programme starts in August every year. There will be two intakes before August 2011:
- The deadline for the first intake is 1st of November 2010
- The deadline for the second intake is 1st of February 2011
