Extensive teaching and active research related to Knowledge-Based Value Creation in Business Firms are carried out in several departments. Professor Nicolai J. Foss is responsible for further developing, organizing and integrating the research efforts in this field.
While any project that highlights the role of knowledge for firm-level value creation is potentially relevant, the following project themes are particularly relevant:
• The causal links between competitive advantage and knowledge.
• How knowledge shape the boundaries of the firm.
• The behavioural foundations of knowledge-based value creation in firms.
• How formal and informal organization shape knowledge-based value creation in firms.
Projects that build on a quantitative empirical research methodology will be given particular preference.

The department emphasises student-faculty interaction, including student participation in department seminars, faculty-student research collaboration, and faculty-student teaching collaboration.
The department runs a programme of weekly faculty seminars where PhD students and faculty members present and discuss their research, facilitating early feedback. Students are also encouraged to present papers at international conferences and to stay one or two semesters at universities abroad.
Students should already hold a masters degree covering central business administration topics. It is a prerequisite that applicants are interested and motivated to pursue their PhD within one of the stated areas of research. Students with only an undergraduate degree will normally not be considered. Moreover, recent GMAT or GRE tests are necessary to be considered for enrollment in the programme.
